The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhy do we continuously get......."SCAM CALLS" trying to sell us this, or that, or something else?
Over and over again I get them....one variation or another...........................................................
............................Here is the total answer as to why we get them?...................................
_________________________________________________________________________________
These phone calls seem so stupid..Why do we keep getting them. They are always trying to sell us
something...anything..."A Vacation" .."Extended Warranty", "Home Improvements" .."Membership
to Something"..."Please Give a Donation" ...."You Will Be Rewarded if You Buy this" ETC, ETC, ETC,
...................Scam Calls Work on Some People..That is Why................................
If they didn't work, we wouldn't get these calls, like a very bad TV commercial that doesn't sell anything.
If it doesn't work, the company will not go to the trouble to make another and another...So we all
think these calls are so stupid and awful...Why do we keep getting them???
..."Because they work on some people"..........you don't think so?...Well the scammers
who make these calls know from experience that they work on..."some people"......................... so they go to the trouble to make more, and more, and more of them..&..."MORE OF THEM"
________________________________________________________________________________
You still don't think so?....Do some research on this topic...scam calls....and you will find that
these calls have been going on for a very long time....(maybe decades)...If they didn't work they
wouldn't try to sell us...Ok one more bit of proof....Can you buy or have you heard of.....

(10,143 posts)Had a great-aunt who lived alone too long after the Alzheimers started. She would get mail from charities that looked exactly like bills, so she paid them, then of course dozens of shady charities started sending her bills. Found this out after my mom finally took over Aunt Bs finances. Theres a special place in hell for people who prey on the elderly.

(38,726 posts)not enough people are scammed......I know that is hard to believe.....................
but President Theodore Roosevelt passed the first laws preventing bad meats from being sold in 1906..
That was the "Pure Food and Drug Law".....which came as a result of a book...................
.......................The Jungle: by Upton Sinclair......which told about unbelievable terrible conditions
....................in meat packing plants in Chicago around the turn of the century.........................
....................Only after the book was published and it became nationally known was the law
passed to prevent terrible conditions in meat packing plants.....and that law which
is still in effect has saved hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives...

(7,715 posts)He, who cannot be named, clearly is the muse of inspiration for the scammer proliferation.
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,539 posts)He was a single older guy who inherited everything from his mother, plus he'd worked at that company for about 40 years. So he was a millionaire at the time (barely), and could easily afford it.
It still made me and everyone else shake our heads in disbelief at his naivety. It was some kind of computer virus-related scam, when his computer was actually working fine.
FakeNoose
(42,409 posts)... so why don't they?
Because they're making money selling our data (names and phone #s) to these scammers.

(520 posts)I know they can use fake # and even call with your # but when u answer they know they have a good # and sell that to more scammers.

(15,539 posts)On very rare occasions, I'll call the number after I Google it and realize it's a legitimate company or person that called me.

(2,343 posts)Stop answering calls from numbers you don't know. Scammers keep doing it because people answer their phones.
