(26,080 posts)There were only 3 channels and this was back in 1961, so not much selection. I also remember and loved the comic books but the first character I really felt attracted to was Gambit. Think I was probably older than 9 though when I got turned on to the XMen?

(802 posts)Absolutely love Rozz in that part. How about when she had lost everything and had to take a job as a switchboard operator...hilarious.. Auntie Mame was and still is a treasure.

Patrick Dennis crafted a character who could have only been portrayed by Rozz Russell.
The sequel is also great fun (Around the World With Auntie Mame)
My favorite of his books is The Joyous Season, which may be the most hilarious holiday story ever.

(26,009 posts)but thought nobody else would recognize the name of the book series. Good to know that at least one other person enjoyed those books. My sister and I used to trade them with a girl our age in the neighborhood since we had some that she didn't have and vice versa.

(23,694 posts)I still have a few of my old ones. The rest were lost in my mother's house fire; one of my cousins had these and her mom gave them back to me.
I do NOT like the more modern versions. IMHO they have been significantly dumbed down.

(15,526 posts)I was probably weirdly fascinated by TV reruns of "The Wild Wild West" at a younger age, though, maybe at age 7 or 8.
I definitely wanted to be just like James West, with all of his handy gadgets, back then at some point.
The more I watched that show, as I got a little older, the more idiotic it seemed. Especially the general plots of the show, which I'd largely ignored at a younger age to focus on the gadgets.
Edit: I was 7, based on an old photograph of me trying to dress like James West.
I don't know about age 9. Those were my terrible red-haired years, being the object of scorn by classmates AND teachers because of it. So probably Grizzly Adams by then.

In 1977, anyway.
I know a lot is said about gold-bikini Leia. But that was in 1983. I fell in love with her in her flowing white royal robes during the first movie in 1977. I've loved strong, intelligent, iron-willed women ever since.
Getting to spend a summer with her would have been Heaven.

(2 posts)I'm the newest and not so new addition to these forums and would like to say howdy first and foremost. Second, to answer the question when I was 9 it was Popeye The Sailor Man and dreams of the Navy believe it or not. I finally got to join the Navy when I turned 17 and it sure opened up my eyes. But all that is for a later time and conversation.
I am glad I found DU and look forward to meeting many of you soon. Please have a beautiful day and evening.

Spending time with some other fictional characters -Sherlock Holmes, Bilbo Bagging, and others I was reading at the time would be too much like spending time with grownups or a bit too scary.
