So what is the proper salutation for Juneteenth? Is "Happy Juneteenth" bad form

like "Happy Memorial Day" is?

On one hand it's marking a day of liberation that is clearly a positive development, but on the other, what came before was horrible.

Seems like something more somber may be appropriate, but what exactly, I wonder?

I’ve never heard expectations of maintaining a somber mood in connection with Juneteenth.

But that wasn't what I was getting at.

Just to wanted to make sure that Happy Juneteenth is appropriate, really, before I go throwing it around.

I think it's always been celebrated in some areas-- picnics and parties.

If there was a holiday marking the day the surviving prisoners were liberated from Dachau, would you assume it's appropriate to say 'Happy Liberation Day', for example?

I definitely would not, without someone confirming its okay.

Just wanted to be sure, thanks!

Honestly, I'm just so excited to see something happening, some acknowledgement of where we've been.
