It was on a 2nd grade field trip to the park. Scared the hell out of my teacher. The park had lots of trees so the slide didn’t blister you.

the powers that be thought it would be a good idea to cover the entire playground in asphalt. Can’t have the kids getting dirt and grass stains on their clothes. Far better to have Johnny rip his pants to shreds sliding into second, and Julie go to the ER to address the road rash on her leg when she fell during a race.

Explaining why the trees died because they couldn’t get any water was a science class bonus.

mini towers, a merry go round and slides like that one. We played tackle football on the packed clay part of the playground.

One kid got knocked into the broken down chain link fence and a chunk jammed itself into his thigh. They had to cut the chunk of fence off and then off to the ER.

Another one broke his leg. Rough and tumble. All gone now. Grass planted and a spacious sand pit, most of it turned into a parking lot.

The ‘Spin’n’Barf Machine.’

I was fortunate to have high resistance to the dizzying effects, but some others in my cohort couldn’t hack it.

I saw an old kids toy that looked like one of those Everglades fan boats, only it was on skis! It had huge sharp fan blades mounted directly behind the kids seats, and the box bragged that the death trap would reach speeds of 40 mph on an icy lake!

Most dangerous toy I’ve ever seen. I do remember the hot slide.
