and then it was just too much and she is now hiding. Her little body startles with each crackle and boom. Hang in there little one, it will be over before you know it.
Our task is to make sure nothing lands on the roof and catches fire!
They are going off so close to our house. That part I really don't like.
How are your critters getting on?

(34,444 posts)I adopted a rescue cat who had been abused and this is our first July 4 together. I thought he would freak out, but he is as calm as the other two are. Currently lying on his back with feet in the air .

(8,445 posts)I only have cats now, and they're not as terrified as my dogs were back when they were still with me.
I just hate these fireworks. I'm fine with the legal ones, but there are HUGE illegal ones being shot off. It's the worst I've ever seen.
I apparently live in a lawless city now. There is no punishment for these assholes. Even when they're caught, they just get a warning.

(7,383 posts)The fireworks in our neighborhood are definitely illegal ones.
No joke, we walk around the property to keep watch for fire.
Most years we find multiple bottle rockets in the yard.
I am on my out to walk the yard.

(8,445 posts)Then I left the hose extended so I wouldn't have to waste any time if something catches fire.
It would be more tolerable here if it was only one night, but it started weeks ago.
I hate to say it, but our police department here in Pueblo, Colorado sucks. They do nothing but give warnings. And that goes for just about everything, not just fireworks.

(24,562 posts)and I don't expect to see him until morning. The big fireworks are over, but the neighborhood is full of folks shooting off stuff. I wish they cared about our poor animals.

(7,715 posts)It's just getting dark here, and I wonder what tonight will bring. Fireworks were STRICTLY illegal given the dry conditions here, but some don't seem to be paying any heed whatsoever.
I love fireworks, but I am content to watch the official ones. Not something a bunch of yahoos do on their own with no concern for the sanity of people and pets and the safety of all.

(34,444 posts)used to be able to see the fireworks from my balcony, but with trees growing and increased building height, I no longer can. But at least TFG is not able to ruin the celebration any more

(12,463 posts)Othello's thundershirt off because it's all quiet out here now.
This is a non smoking apartment complex no fire etc.
The fireworks were far away this year and the closer ones did not last long. Being on the second floor helps.
He's grooming himself on my lap.

(16,377 posts)Non-stop explosions. One of my dogs was born deaf and she doesn't care, although I think she doesn't like the smells. The other doggo is hanging in there, while the cat nervously sticks beside me and gets loads of petting.

(1,850 posts)And wouldn't come in when I called. She was hiding but might have been stalking prey. I took a walk at 12:45 and called for her and she came to me. I live in a rural area on a private road, but neighbors on 3 sides have been setting of fireworks for weeks. She's been annoyed, startled and not happy. Should have a few more days of leftover noise to deal with.
