Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am taking an 8 year old, Yilin, to NYC for the first time next week.

And my sister...
American Museum of Natural History- (Yilin wants to see dinosaurs, Haydn Planetarium, gems exhibit, et al)
MoMA ( So Yilin can see the Water Lilies room; he wants to see REAL Monet, Cezanne, Manet, Pissarro, etc. go figure)
Metropolitan Museum- (Yilin's choice to see. medieval armour, Egyptian exhibit, Persian porcelain and lots of other stuff)
Cafe China- (because it is a dynamite Sichuan joint....)
Hangawi- Korean vegan restaurant-- (same as Cafe China and my sister is vegan)
Xi'an Famous Foods (Yilin wants to go there for their 'stewed pork belly burger.')
Circle Line Cruise (Yilin wants to see Statue of Liberty up close... OK)
UP the Empire State building.... just because......
He's a real Renaissance kid!!!

(14,811 posts)When he was about that age. One of the places we went was up the Empire State Building. As we were walking around the observation deck he got real excited & pointed to the MetLife building & said. "Dad! That's the building Godzilla came though!."

(17,282 posts)I made friends with a Chinese family when I worked there for a few years. After that I went to NYC for a year and these friends (including a 7 year old daughter) made their first trip to the US to visit us. Her wish list was very similar to your itinerary, except she also had a fascination with the Statue of Liberty. The Circle Line Cruise was great and we had great views of the Statue. She also loved the Red Bus hop on hop off.
Enjoy!

(2,383 posts)I will also go to SUSHI NOZ Thurs night, alone (after I drop them at the hotel), as it is $395 for their Omakase dinner. and they are not big sushi fans. So that is the one thing for ME !!!

(14,118 posts)good time but for Yilin it will be unforgettable! Will you visit the U.N. building? Take the stairs to the
top of The Statue Of Liberty? You can tell that's what I did and I haven't forgotten. At all.

(2,383 posts)at least midtown and the upper East and West Sides...
Played many jazz gigs there when in HS and college summers...
The UN is on the possible list... I believe the Statue of Liberty is closed at the moment. Anyway the cruise we have is the 1 hour one and I don;t think it actually even stops there. just goes around it and back to 42nd St.
