The Dark Hedges in County Antrim in Northern Ireland.
This avenue of large mature beech trees are natural tunnels that are both enchanting and eerie. These trees are now almost 250 years old and have only become even more atmospheric over time.

When you enter a grove peopled with ancient trees, higher than the ordinary, and shutting out the sky with their thickly inter-twined branches, do not the stately shadows of the wood, the stillness of the place then strike you with the presence of a deity?"
- Seneca Roman Stoic Philosopher

(12,604 posts)1. Not so peaceful. Looks like the live trees in Wizard of Oz.

(14,118 posts)2. Trees that are 250 years old indicate that nobody has ever cut them down. And the location
of a paved lane passing through them (instead of a 4-lane divided highway) are very indicative of
the Irish state of mind. Thanks!

Quite often I find myself deeply moved by pictures of trees, these are no exception.
