Opting to not run for our HOA board again.

I've been on it twice. Once back in 2017 and and this past year.

There are MAGA people dominating on the board. They have their majority and ignore those of us on fixed incomes. There was some give and take last summer and fall, but their plans to raise fees and issue $2,000 assessments will likely continue. Our condo devopment has always been self managed, but five years ago we ran into trouble because of illness and complacency. I fear the autocracy we fear on the national level is active in our little neck of the woods. And two out of 5 live elsewhere and rent out their places for extra income.

I just couldn't deal with being ignored and always getting short shrift. Sometimes chastised for being "condescending"! What democratic ideals? I don't want to fight, but am seriously debating handing in a write in ballot with all 5 votes going to an owner who is also on a fixed income and wary of their methods and priorities. Others in our boat are thinking of selling.

My hubby, with Alzheimer’s does not want to sell. But caring for him and trying to cope with them has been detrimental to my mental and physical health.

I wish I had more of what I admire in some of our reps in Congress. But we are not all cut out with necessary gifts and very thick skin.

Tomorrow is the election. I want to just ignore it. But I think I'll have to be there... Margarita in hand.

shouldn't it be a requirement that people have to LIVE there to be on the board? Skittles Jul 2021 #4
Apparently ownership is the only requirement. SleeplessinSoCal Jul 2021 #7

I'm going to share these with other frustrated owners. We have two of five votes going to people whose only interest is income property and not living conditions. And they are rubber stamps to one of the trumpiest who lives here.

I signed up at HOATalk.com.

Tonight at the meeting I was thanked for my rocky tenure to which I responded "that's democracy".
