School starts August 16 where I am, and earlier in lots of other places.

Starting after Labor Day is unusual any more.

added on edit: A lot of places have some kind of different schedule this year because of disruptions last year.

My sisters-in-law teach in WV. Kids back 8/16, teachers the week before.

In Western NC, teachers back 8/16, and kids 8/23.

Growing up in So Cal, I started school each year day after Labor Day and went through mid June. Not till college did school start in August. Every single year I taught (1998-2018), in Bay Area and WNC, kids started mid to late August, two weeks before Labor Day.

YMMV

Many schools go back the 3rd week in August now.

I myself don’t remember ever going back before Labor Day.

Hubby and I were in Walmart this morning and I commented on how they had all the school supplies right inside the front door.

One of my grandsons has to be at his college on Aug. 10. And organizations are doing their "Stuff the Bus" school supply drives this week here in the Upper Shenandoah Valley.

would be wise to check out the sales as soon as possible, considering supply chain disruptions and the possibility of spot shortages. Needless to say, this is not a normal year.

"Back to school" before the kids are even properly out of it.

some States school starts sometime in Aug! 😳
We in NYC never started before Labor Day! ✊

I'm 68, and I still cringe (a little less now) at seeing "back to school" ads!!! 😂
