So my adult son, after battling cancer all through 2019 into 2020 and then staying unemployed throughout the year, got a temporary job as a contact tracer for a large social media company.
Someone in work chat said they weren't sure about getting vaccine because who knows what it would do to you. He responded "Well, we do know what Covid will do to you." And a manager wrote him up for making a political statement that made others uncomfortable. "Others" unspecified, of course. Now his job's in danger.
On a Covid tracing team, that was a political statement.
I'm not feeling so good.
EDIT: Thank you all. I went to bed before seeing responses. I appreciate the sympathy, of knowing I'm not the crazy one, and I'll pass on your suggestions. Us gig workers tend to have zero recourse, especially in right-to-work heaven, but we can try. (My last employee gig was 1995.)

(17,250 posts)Must be one crazy manager who chose to write that up in stead of writing up the idiot who wasnt getting the vaccine.
Heres hoping your son finds a better work environment soon!

(4,999 posts)Boy, that's messed up.
Hope your son is able to keep his job. I see nothing political in his statement, just a stated fact.

(6,783 posts)A protest of the write up. Submit it in writing to his HR file. You can submit information to your own HR file. I did it a couple times in my work life.

(63,221 posts)I would definitely tell you son to start documenting everything right now and possibly even consult with a lawyer. That is just so effed up. Where (what city/state) does your son work?
Do these people know that he has a compromised immune system and that it is important for him to be safe at his workplace? This kind of thing just infuriates me. These people are so selfish!
