The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsIt may be the bourbon talking, but I just wanted to say:
I love you all
Unreservedly.
You are all so kind to an unworthy, undeserving wreck like me.
I just wanted to spell it out.
Let us drink and be merry, for tomorrow, we die

I did visit Seattle with some family about three years ago. We stayed right next to the Space Needle and went up it and to the glass museum and explored the city a bit. Nice place.

I shall have a drink to honor you, and I hardly ever drink...

(114,504 posts)and I'm not talking shots of bourbon. That was my dad's favorite tipple but I've never liked it.
It sucks that Covid might make us sick after enduring what those shots did to us, but at least it will be a minor inconvenience instead of an ambulance ride to the hospital for a painful and uncertain future.

(40,730 posts)It was held at my German club on the northside of Pittsburgh. This is a traditional thing that we try to do every year, but of course we had to skip it last year. The men who do the roasting come and set it up the night before, and the pig roasts over an open fire all night long. So these guys work in 4 hour shifts, and take turns drinking the club's beer when they go off-duty.
It was actually quite good! I had a BBQ pork sandwich, corn on the cob, coleslaw and that was the small dinner. If you went for "the works" you got cuts of roasted pork, rolls, baked beans, salad besides the other stuff. Nobody went home hungry!
No bourbon for me, but I started drinking German beer early this afternoon.

(40,730 posts)Most larger cities in the US have German clubs, where immigrants or their children will get together for social outings. I've seen many in the midwestern states, but I'm not so familiar with the West Coast.
Anyway my point is that many of these German clubs will usually put on an Oktoberfest that's open to the public. If you ask around, or look in the newspaper you might find one near you.
Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Kitchener (Ontario), and several other cities put on fabulous Oktoberfests. We have a few smaller ones in Pittsburgh that are hosted by the breweries.
