Who was director Barry Sonnenfeld's first choice to play the part of Chili Palmer in his 1995 film
"Get Shorty"? (answer is Danny DeVito)

(33,063 posts)The only reason DeVito didn't play the part is that he previously had signed on to do another movie.

(33,063 posts)But he was advised to take the part by a famous friend...who was it?

(4,858 posts)...as I recall, it came up against "Tombstone", and got clobbered. It was three hours, too, which didn't help. It's not a bad film--but "Tombstone" is better.

(33,063 posts)"Wyatt Earp" cost $63 Million to make and until now has only made $25 million
Tombstone, on the other hand, cost $25 Million to make & has made over $56 Million
(I like both "Tombstone" and "Wyatt Earp", but Kurt Russell is better playing Wyatt Earp, imo)

(4,858 posts)...that's exactly it. The characters weren't named, so it was the actors I was after. Has any film had so many great character actors in it?
Harker
(17,785 posts)I always have trouble with the oldest juror - but reviewing the ending on my head screen, the old fellow and Fonda's characters exchange names. Fonda's character name will keep me up late, but Mr. Sweeney said, "mine's McCardle!"
Thanks for the fun!
