add a good cheese sauce
dash or 2 of pepper
sprinkle with grated parmesan or like cheese.
Just as good for ya as broccoli.....which you can cook same way.

(39,957 posts)Cauliflower isn't my favorite veggie, but it is nice in winter when nothing is coming out of the ground fresh. I'll probably try it with the garlic salt and olive oil.

OK, that was a very light-hearted response to the original post.
Please understand, I have tremendous respect for reformed alcoholics and those addicted to drugs. When they kick the addiction, they are true superhero's.
Broccoli & cauliflower are easy to overcome compared to alcohol & drugs.

(11,478 posts)Soft, slimy, squishy texture and not much flavor. I love okra, and that canned crap is probably the reason a lot of people won't go near it.
Cooked right, it's delicious as a side or as an ingredient, but NOT that canned garbage.

(34,189 posts)I live in the Southeast so I've had lots of fresh cooked okra offered to me. Since I was raised that it is rude to not at least try food, I generally take a tiny serving and try it. After all, maybe someone has found a new way to cook okra that makes it not disgusting. Unfortunately, I have not found a new way that I could stand.
Same for kale - I just can't deal with the bitterness of it. For a while I was a member of one of those farm things, where you subscribe and get a bag or two of vegetables direct from the farmers. The one I was a member of had a lot of kale so I tried for months every recipe to cook it I could find. No go on kale - it's just too bitter for me to deal with. In fact, most greens - collard, mustard - are too bitter for me to enjoy. I make an effort but just cannot eat them with enjoyment.

I'll admit that when making a gumbo or anything else with fresh okra, it is kinda gross for the 10 minutes or so that you have to stir over fairly high heat to evaporate the "slime", but the end result is so worth it.

(11,357 posts)I cut the cauliflower into small florets and boil in water until tender. While the cauliflower is getting tender, I melt a quarter cup of butter with a teaspoon or 2 of garlic.
I drain the cauliflower after it's tender and place it in the food processor with salt, pepper, and the melted butter with garlic.
Favorite cheeses can be added to the mashed cauliflower as well.
I'm low carb so potatoes have been eliminated from daily diet. Cauliflower is an easy low carb filler.

(19,902 posts)with some ranch or blue cheese dip. I like most of my vegetables raw. You couldn't get me to eat cooked cauliflower in any way, shape or form. I'm the same with broccoli.

1 clove garlic
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 Tablespoons tarragon vinegar (or wine vinegar and some dry tarragon)
3 T minced green onion or chives
1/2 cup snipped parsley
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 tsp ground black pepper.
Or look for a refrigerated green goddess dressing at the grocer, or at Trader Joe's.

Doesn't actually taste like rice, but mix with a few other vegetables and it's ok.

My late boss took me there during my interview for the job, the beginning of a professional relationship built that developed into the deepest personal respect and friendship.
After eating the gobhi manchurian, which came with a "what is it?" quiz, (I had no idea what it was) I never felt the same way about cauliflower, and in fact, life, again.
I also knew I had to work with this guy, and now that he's gone, whenever I see a cauliflower I feel this magnificent grief. He was a great teacher, and not insignificant, was what he taught me about cauliflower.

I'll also steam it and cover it with buttered breadcrumbs. Raw makes a good snack - almost like popcorn! My kids as babies called the florets "trees" and loved it raw. Now they won't touch it in any form.

This is why I don't like restaurants. A cheap peasant root vegetable has no business on an expensive plate of swanky food.
