The thing that I like best about my cat.

I live with a very emotional, expressive cat. I try not to humanize her, but I swear, she is every bit as articulated as any human could be. She just responds in cat verbiage, but her tonal inflictions are entirely appropriate. Her tones of response and inquiry make me feel like I have a real companion. I have dear dogs, and we communicate, but nothing like this cat. She never ignores me, but responds with every touch or brush of my hand with a question, or a comment, and it encourages me to respond to her. She is wonderful.

I know that non cat owners might not understand, but when your cat responds to you with the exact tonal inflections rising at the end of a response, clearly a question, or trails off with an appropriate comment to your own question, then you kinda wonder. If she had the withal to actually talk, it would seem entirely natural and normal and conversational. In this grave time of every one of us hurting in some way, I am grateful for this. It is so pleasant.

1. This must be so much fun.

I wish you had video.

Is she a particular breed?

2. I had a cat like that which I lost last year. Broke my heart.

He was amazing. I want another one but haven't had the heart to go find another cat yet.

You both are so lucky to have one another.

11. There will be another one needing a fur-ever home

Speaking from experience, you won't have to look, s/he will find you. I will say there will have been one or two cats that set the bar and set it high. I've had two in my lifetime, decades apart. I love the one I have now for who she is. Cruel person/people dumped her as a kitten in the bitter cold. Kind people rescued her and the rest is history.

3. Glad you have some companionship during this awful time.

Cats are very expressive, at least the two I have had were. It's funny to me how their personalities vary so much. They're just as different from each other as humans are. Hope you have many more years to go with your cat!

4. My kitty is very emotional

And expressive. He rarely meows.

He says what he says with body language and looks.

When I talk to him his eyes respond and his body and if he could talk ..

Anyways once you have a cat's trust it is precious.

Like a beautiful fragile rare sculpture made from gold tinged glass. I cherish it.

15. I had once once who would talk to me, and would actually talk to almosy everyone - combinations of s

He once told a woman whose house he was at that he was lost. I'm sure (from the way my Mom reported her phone call) that she knew he was lying, but called the number on his tag anyway (She went and picked him up.)

I and neighbors frequently heard him telling passers by that he was starving and neglected.

One neighbor had hired a gardener, and tha cat jumped their fence into their yard while she was working, and started limping up to her, to whoicj sje responded, "You're out of luck, cat I saw you jump the fence." He took a moment to lick his rear before departing.

A neighbor who was a professor of taxonomy dubbed hin "felix domesticus mendacitans."

Possibly the funniest was one time when he was on the receiving end of the conversation. I need to say both cats were neutered, so the interaction was purely social. A female cat was trying to start a conversation or possibly a game, but he shrugged her off as if she had cooties. She tried twice more with the same result. Then she jumped onto his back, bit his neck, and left in a huff. That time it took him a while to finish with his rear. I and my friend who also saw the whole thing were still giggling.

Alas, he crossed the bridge almost 40 years ago.

7. My boy is also quite chatty

He cracks us up since its like talking to a person. He only does this at night or in the morning. He also snuggles in the crook of my arm every single night, resting his head on my shoulder. 😁😁

9. I've had several cats over the years and each one

was special. I had one that could count. Id open the door to the porch and count to 3 then shut the door. Hed often wait to the last second to scoot out the door. He made it to 20 and I still miss him.

10. They all have their ways...

I lost Milo and Jeoffry last summer, only a month apart. I still miss them and sometimes think I see them out of the corner of my eye, slinking under the dining room table. I think (hope) they're haunting me. Milo was insanely friendly; when he wanted to be picked up, which was frequently, he'd just launch himself at my torso knowing I'd catch him. Jeoffry was more reserved but sometimes he'd be really noisy and just holler at me when he wanted attention. And there was a time when I'd injured my knee and he curled up next to it and purred and purred. He never did that before, and he never did it after it healed. Cats purr to heal themselves and I think he was trying to heal me.

I so miss those guys.

I still have Pixie. She's chatty in an odd, quiet way; she seldom meows but talks to me all the time with trills and chirps and hums in tones of voice that leave no doubt what she wants. She's extremely communicative. I love her little sounds.

Your baby sounds so precious. Maybe post a vid?
