Just how fucking stoned do you have to be to come up with the thought, the seed, the concept...and then following through and pitching that concept to TV executives and convincing them that the premises behind the TV shows "The Flying Nun" and "My Mother the Car" will do reasonably well?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the shows at all, I'm talking about the concept of the shows. You can't come up with stuff like that without drugs.

I'm not sure if they had bongs back then, but I can picture a bunch of men and women sitting around a table doing bong rips and trying to come up with ideas for a new TV show.

If you're actually wondering, it seems that Bewitched was inspired by a couple of movies, "I Married a Witch" and "Bell Book and Candle". Well, at least if you are to believe the trivia section of IMDB on "I Married a Witch" :

Sol Saks, creator of Bewitched (1964), stated in an interview for E! True Hollywood Story: Bewitched (1999) that he drew inspiration both from this film and Bell Book and Candle (1958) in creating the iconic TV series. Columbia Pictures owned the rights to both of those movies. Since it also owned the television studio that was to produce "Bewitched," Saks didn't worry about getting sued.

Not only was the TV show Bewitched (1964) influenced by this film, but Eily Malyon (who played Fredric March's mother in the opening witch-burning scene) played a character named Tabitha, which was the daughter's name on the TV show.

Currently available for streaming from TCM. Not the best of films, but Veronica Lake was certainly cute!
