The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI finally have what I've been longing for for weeks.
A quiet afternoon in my armchair by the window, listening to the rain come down outside.
Ahh...
Let the healing begin...

(15,359 posts)if I'm not dressed for rain. This time it wasn't cold and I kept going to a park I like. Got rained on and little wet on the way back but didn't care.

(72,686 posts)I've got vodka, limes, lime juice, and limeade concentrate, so tonight: a vodka gimlet.

For all the jokes I make about heavy drinking, I usually wait until evening, and save the day-drinking for vacation.

(72,686 posts)I keep my vodka in the freezer. It was so cold, the outside of my cocktail shaker frosted over!

(72,686 posts)It gives me an excuse to stay inside. I'm not a real outdoorsy kind of guy, so I always feel guilty staying inside on a bright sunny day.
On a rainy day, no such guilt...

(2,220 posts)my cat and I spent some time just listening to the rain. Not only was the sound very relaxing, it has been so long since a good rain that I felt the healing also.

(72,686 posts)Not so much here in the Pacific Northwest. We have our rainy reputation to uphold, and the weather hasn't been cooperating.

(2,220 posts)About 30 years ago in February I encountered a young couple from back east. They had moved to Seattle in November, and were complaining about the endless rain. "When will it stop?" they asked.
Everyone else there answered "July." You should have seen the faces of the newcomers drop in dismay.

(72,686 posts)It took me two years, born and raised in Texas, and growing up in warm, sunny climates, to get used to the weather here. And a number of years after that to come to love it. And I do love it, and the Northwest. This beloved green paradise...

I love how Washington State is perfect for both those who love the outdoors and spend as much time there as possible, and those who like solitude and contemplation.

(64,766 posts)It's why I was so glad to get home. After 30 years (give or take) in Southern California, it was so nice to see nice green, wet forests.
Down there, the forests are dry, even in the mountains. Just not the same.

(2,928 posts)mostly just a foggy drizzle, but it has gone on all day. Hope we actually get a light rain tonight. Covered my firewood and rolled up the truck windows this morning. Been inside with a fire going most of the day.
