I make my dog wait for a treat sometimes, but she always gets it. I have often faked her out by not throwing something. I guess I got lucky with her, she doesn't get anxious about it, she looks around a while, and then comes back. She also doesn't fall for it more than once. After that, she doesn't take off unless she sees an actual object that's been thrown.

some posts here that have bothered me. I'm sure they are meant to be funny but they make me cringe. I didn't want to confront anyone directly because I think they were posted with the best intentions, but I just wanted folks to stop and think. There is fun and then there is teasing that can be hurtful.

I'll gladly take the heat. I know it's hard to criticize a friend but I'll defend any innocent underdog regardless of what anyone thinks of me.

I hate any sort of cruelty toward an innocent animal, even when it tries to masquerade as humor.

My son used to tease our dogs & I'd always reprimand him, even though most of his teasing was "seemingly harmless."

Teasing just seems to have a sadistic & dominance element to it. It's a "I-have-power-&-control-over-you thing."

I always put myself in the dog's place & would ask if I would like that treatment. A few times the dog might think it was funny but mostly not. It's obviously done more to amuse the person than the dog. So, imo, folks should not do it.

The dog just gets up and moves, the cat gets pissed.

I've never tried it, 'tho I just know my cat would bite anyone who tries it.
She's a rescue & a biter. Pick her up in an awkward way & she'll bite you. Otherwise, she's a nice little girl.

I'd never do that to our old guy, our dog; he needs his beauty rest. Am thinking an occasional tickle would be harmless tho.
