(8,445 posts)Their floors! I'm amazed that their floors can stand up to a 1600 pound horse walking on it on a regular basis.

(10,431 posts)I see a video or story about any animal other than dogs & cats that are allowed to "free range" around someone's house. Chickens, horses, pigs, they've all been good pets for some people, but they can't be housetrained can they?

(11,631 posts)They can control when they pee but the manure just comes out when its ready.

(10,431 posts)Farm animals and any livestock seem to just walk around pooping and peeing whenever and wherever the urge hits. The only animals who seem to have bladder control are predators. They mark their territory, so have control. But even then, it seems like mainly domesticated animals like cats or dogs which don't want to soil their own dens can be trained to not go indoors.

(22,073 posts)Wonder if he ever tried to ride her again?
Many years ago, when I bought my mare, she was 5 years old and still a bit green. The first thing she did was jump the fence and scrape me off in a tree--breaking my arm in multiple places. Gawd, I loved that horse! (but she never came in the house). We went through many adventures together, ups and downs. I finally lost her a few years ago when she was 35 years old, and still miss her. On the good news front--Mr. Bayard just bought me a new horse!

(28,120 posts)I know you must still grieve your mare.
Your new horse is one of the most handsome gents. He should win prizes just for showing up. Hope you'll post some pics of him.
Just today we learned that our neighbors lost their beloved old golden who was a good friend of our Missy. I'm sitting here still wiping tears for dear Duke. Duke's owner said he's shed far more tears for Duke than he has for any family member. I can identify; our Missy showed us far more compassion & affection than any family member ever has**. Yes, so often our critters give us more than family members do.
** Was referring to birth family here, not my immediate family - hubby & son have been most compassionate.
