There could be a four-way tie for the American League wild card spots. 163 games may not be enough!

(9,998 posts)A Dodgers Win and Giants Loss on Sunday, gives them both a 106-56 record.
They would play Game 163 on Monday in SF, because the Giants won the season series 10-9. The loser would then play the Wild Card game on Wednesday. The Division Series starts Friday.
Should be an interesting afternoon.

(24,393 posts)Boston wiped them early....then the Yankess cleaned house on the Sox. By one game, the playoff is in Boston. I really want to be on Landsdowne Street. Eating good food, drinking good beer, and celebrating this play-off game.

(24,393 posts)If they beat Tampa Bay today, theyre in. They would then play the WC game. If they win that, they then play Tampa Bay, who have owned the Yankees this year.

(24,393 posts)The Rays are great offensively. A lot of their hits yesterday were off arguably good pitches. They go after everything.
BTW - I get tired of so many Yankee batters taking a first-pitch strike. They do much better when they go after those pitches, like they did against the Jays.

(4,858 posts)...even though, as a Sawx fan, 2004 couldn't have happened without it. Even so. I hate the artificial "pennant races" it creates, the devaluation of real pennant races, and the way it encourages mediocrity. But hey, I admit I'm an old fogey. I also hate 13-man pitching staffs, every game with 5 or 6 pitchers, and the lack of 300-inning guys. Give me Gibson against Seaver for nine innings any day...

(24,393 posts)I still dont know how you deal with a situation like that in the NL West, where one game will separate the two best teams in MLB, with the second-place team forced to play a WC game, and with other teams winning their divisions with records nowhere close to LA and SF.
