1. Ani DiFranco

I happened to have been at a pharmaceutical industry event (Guthrie Foundation for Huntington’s Disease) at a famous NYC hotel years ago. Ani was the musical guest. This was 2009 just after the Great Recession. All the pharmacy big boys were there. Ani gets on stage and does this song and absolutely RIPPED INTO THEM before during and after the song. I’m sitting at our table and had to turn around to see the stage. I have no idea how the people at our table were taking this. I’d been out of work for almost a year and I was new to this operation. I’m watching this emotionless tight jawed but inside I’m screaming F YES!!!! I wanted to run up to the stage and jump up and down and scream it in their faces. The most brutal performance I’ve ever seen. The place was absolutely silent until the Guthrie family members and the wife of the Pearl Jam guitarist jumped up and started cheering her.

I’m sure they let Ani know she could do whatever she wanted.

I stepped outside at one point to have a smoke. I couldn’t help it, I stood on a NYC street and just bellowed out HOLY F’ing SHIT!!!! and started laughing.
