The Mamas & The Papas: California Dreamin'
Lyrics
All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)
And the sky is gray (and the sky is gray)
I've been for a walk (I've been for a walk)
On a winter's day (on a winter's day)
I'd be safe and warm (I'd be safe and warm)
If I was in L.A. (if I was in L.A.)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day
Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees (got down on my knees)
And I pretend to pray (I pretend to pray)
You know the preacher like the cold (preacher like the cold)
He knows I'm gonna stay (knows I'm gonna stay)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day
All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)
And the sky is gray (and the sky is gray)
I've been for a walk (I've been for a walk)
On a winter's day (on a winter's day)
If I didn't tell her (if I didn't tell her)
I could leave today (I could leave today)
California dreamin' (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day (California dreamin')
On such a winter's day

Also love the Beatles When the Rain Comes, but unfortunately posting clips isn't one of my things.

And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run over by a damned old train

(27,792 posts)Simon & Garfunkel -- Kathy's Song
It evokes a powerful memory of a most beautiful woman (named Kathy) whom I still love very much. It evokes just the right emotions as well. As close to a perfect song as you can get.
Other good ones I can think of:
In The Rain -- Dramatics
Let It Rain -- Eric Clapton
Taxi -- Harry Chapin
Penny Lane -- Beatles
Rainy Day People -- Gordon Lightfoot
and, for that matter,
Wreck of The Edmund Fitzgerald -- Gordon Lightfoot

(170,216 posts)Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
We were so close, there was no room
We bled inside each others wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace
Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
So, raise the candles high
'Cause if you don't we could stay black against the night
Oh, raise them higher again
And if you do we could stay dry against the rain
Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
We were so close, there was no room
We bled inside each other's wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace
Some came to sing, some came to pray
Some came to keep the dark away
So, raise the candles high (Up high)
'Cause if you don't, we could stay black against the sky
Oh, oh, raise (Raise) them higher again (Up high)
And if you do we could stay dry against the rain
Lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
You've got to lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
Oh, you've got to lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown
Oh, you've got to lay down, lay down, lay it all down
Let your white birds smile up at the ones who stand and frown

Keith Whitley's story is soooooooo sad.
He was horrifically addicted to alcohol and died of alcohol poisoning in 1989. He was only 34 years old.
