1. I was at my next to last Dead show in Birmingham, AL sitting next to a couple that had won tickets.

April 4th, 1995.

They had never been to a Dead show and the wife said she was waiting for them to play Truckin'.

I explained to her that they had played it in PA in March so the chances of them playing it were slim.

It took me a while to explain that the Dead did not play their "hits" every show like most bands. She ending up loving the show anyway.

2. Didn't the Dead do a different show every night?

The late great Frank Zappa put it like so: No one goes to a concert to hear live music. They go to hear what you played on the record.

3. Yes they did. You never knew what you might here one night to the next.

It may be years between songs. My favorite song to hear live was Stella Blue. I felt privileged when I heard it.

I only heard Box of Rain once and that was at my first show.
