(66,484 posts)I was on vacation for the week of Election 2020, because when Trump oozed into the White House after Election 2016, I was almost physically sick; I showed up to the clinic to work the next day, but had to go home before seeing a single patient. I decided in 2020 just to build in some time to deal with it all if the worst happened again.
I did a lot of day-drinking that week...
Plus a bottle of champagne when Joe Biden was finally certified as the winner...

(17,352 posts)That's a fitting way to describe it!

(129,773 posts)He started doing that this past year. I actually bookmarked the thead where he announced it - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10181463817
I think he missed a couple about a month or so ago, but has managed to keep up with it.

(129,773 posts)back in the day when newyawker99 used to do milestones for DUers.
I think it's great to have that going on now. It lets people know how fast time flies!
There are still a couple DUers who welcome new posters after their first post and that is great to see too.

(19,204 posts)That's quite an achievement.
I'd be somewhere in that vicinity myself if I wouldn't have gotten myself "evicted" during the Clinton/Obama Wars. I still lurked for a few years, then came crawling back with my hat in my hands.
The place is addictive, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Nicely done, Aristus.

(23,182 posts)My anniversary date was 6/8/2001 and how glad I've been that I found it with all of the wonderful Democrats that come here.
There are times when it seems a lifetime ago, and times when it seems like yesterday. The deep, depressed daze I was in after GWB was sworn in; I felt so alone and so helpless. This was before Mrs. Aristus did her hard turn to the left, and was still a conservative Christian, so I had no support or sympathy at home for my shock and dismay.
Idly surfing the net one day, I saw the link to democraticunderground.com, clicked it, and knew instantly that I was home. DU has kept me sane, as well as informed and entertained, ever since...

(23,182 posts)He still thought I had lost my mind with my grief and anger at the theft of the election, and I had no one in town I could talk to about this. I was on another Democratic site which crashed so started looking around and found this and All Hat No Cattle and was able to laugh some and to start talking with other Dems and I could deal so much better. This quickly became my go to spot and has been such ever since. I am so thankful for you and all the other good folks here, for the comraderie and leftie support network!
Long Live DU!!!

(66,484 posts)When she found out that 81% of evangelicals voted for TFG, she left the church and never went back.
She is very LGBTQ friendly, and supports strong gun control efforts.
It's been an amazing transformation...
