I liked Dexter, so why am I having trouble getting into "You?"

Basically, the same concept. Very likeable protagonist, who finds lethal ways of getting rid of the bad guys. I think it's problematic for me, because I really liked the two main characters and it's going down a dark path, that can't end well for anyone.

and I feel the same way. Spoiler, I am a published horror author and I generally eschew the serial killer genre, I too liked Dexter.

I have dubbed YOU-Sexter. The difference between the two main protagonists is that Dexter, recognizes his monster; his “dark passenger” , and has accepted the guidance of his adoptive father to channel his violence for justice. It makes him more like able as a character. He is twisted Batman.

Joe, on the other hand is simply a predator, with no just cause or inner moral code. He simple kills to get to his current obsession and then ditches his mark when he transfers his obsession to another. Much less like able or relatable. He is also an unrepentant misogynist. So, while I found it interesting, in forensic sort of way. It was hard to find it entertaining.

If he ditches his obsession, that’s all I need to know. Emogh with the heartless sociopaths.

BTW… I hear there is a Dexter movie on the way. The author of the books hated the TV ending and persuaded the producers to fix how they ended the series.

Also… Michael C. Hall is a terrific vocalist. Saw him in Cabaret many years ago and he has also done a turn in Chicago. Anyway. He has a band called “Princess goes to the Butterfly Museum” (no kidding) post New Wave but terrific. Check them out.

With at least some of the original writers.

I don't know if they're planning on going more than the one season, though.

He was apparently very good in this. I saw video of some of it and it was good.

I thought the new Dexter was going to be a serial on the TV. Either way, I want to see it. These kinds of things are almost always a let down but I like Michael C. Hall so I will watch.

I had to finish it to see what happened.

I did have to suspend belief many times. And there was a part of me that just wanted it over. I guess we are supposed to put it in the box with over the top campy?
