A random thought about the dreaded PERMANENT RECORD, a threatening feature

of many childhoods. During a mention of that dreadful feature today, it occurred to me that only the bad things we did were supposedly entered into our PERMANENT RECORDS. Nobody EVER said that some good or wonderful or brave or generous or kind act that we committed would be entered. It seems to me that entering the good deeds would be an encuragement to do more such.

On the other hand, I have not yet had sufficient caffeine and chocolate, so perhaps my brain is not processing correctly.

6. Ah, yes, the dreaded "permanent record." Sword of Damocles in the 1950s and 60s.

Repository for such sins as skipping band practice to go to the early lunch period because I was really, really hungry that particular day. The friend and I who made this terrible choice were called into the office before lunch was even over.
