(141,926 posts)I don't know exactly where, my brother (and cousin) actually FOUND the building, some years ago.
Grandpa ran a deli, the family lived above it and the 'kids' worked in it (occasionally.)
They attended George Washington High School.

Music and Art HS. I think my dad also wanted me to try for Bronx Science (I loved some science, too) but I leaned more to Art. In HS I barely made it through (blarg 😄
Algebra, Trig, did well Geometry.
We used to go over to St Nicohlas Ave (maaaybe Amsterdam, too) on, near 181st. There was a Greek Deli where we got our Greek foods. Stuff not well known in general yet.
Your parents/you moved away from NYC?
elleng
(141,926 posts)after my mother had died, and Dad remarried; my first home was Brooklyn, up to 5th grade.
I moved 'away' for college, in midwest, then to Chicago (and later DC,) and Dad and adopted mother left L.I. for Westchester after brother and I were out of college, then they moved to Florida. Adopted mother passed in FL, and Dad passed after he'd moved to IOWA!!! to be near brother, who was (and is established there.)

Sorry didn't really appreciate Brooklyn (Clinton Hill/Fort Greene) as so young, BUT got a GOOD public school education through 4th grade.

(41,872 posts)Of course he was the original star, and he wrote the stage play and some of the music. I guess for the movie version they needed a younger man for the lead and Miranda is already in his 40's now. It's a nice little story, and the music and dancing are very good.
