Despite working in bookshops for most of my working life, I have not yet read a Stephen King novel. I've been thinking about it, though. A nearby library's benefit basement has about a dozen available, each for a small donation. I'd cheerfully accept a suggestion, if you have one.

I think Rhiannon12866 is up north, where as my wife and I are about 60 miles SW of Albany. She grew up here, I'm more of a Coloradan by nature, still trying to get oriented after two years here. We spent a couple years at the opposite end of PA from you prior.

655. I found most of the King books that I've read riveting.

King wrote Shawshank and I haven't read that but I've seen the movie a few times. It's a masterpiece. I read the Shining when it came out and liked the style and especially the characterizations. The Stand was IMO amazing but hard to get into. It took me almost a week to get through the first 30 pages due to the eclectic start. The following weekend I read 100+. I finished the remaining 600 or so pages in 2 days. That was the abridged version which I've read is hard to find.

I think The Dead Zone might be a good place to start but maybe read some reviews.
