I have tried, unsuccessfully, for years to get this shot!
I had better luck with the deer in the river channel below the tree with the bird.

At first glance, it looks like a female cardinal, but they don't have those beautiful bright yellow feathers in their wings and tails, and they don't have the black and white markings, either. I did some research, and I think it's a Bohemian waxwing, which I never heard of until now.

but I was thinking well maybe I never saw one close enough or maybe in another state they look more like this
No just looks like a cardinal to me too I guess because its the closest bird I can identify with
Appreciate your research

(16,389 posts)You're right about female cardinals having muted colors. They're basically buff, with a slight reddish blush in the wings, tail, and crest.
There's definitely a resemblance to the Bohemian waxwing, but also lots of differences, some of which are pretty subtle!

(5,017 posts)I was thinking - Cardinal crossed with American Goldfinch? I don't think that's even possible!

(9,966 posts)The cat and tree ones always bring back memories....of our cat McFurzie, a white longhair, who loved to climb inside our real ones (late ex had installed screw eyes in the window frame and they were wired to it) and came out with pitch in his fur, leaving tufts of white behind; of my friend Carol who put her tree in the playpen when her kiddos were small; and of the final solution, which was to nail the stand to a thick, heavy piece of wood so it could not be knocked over by anyone or anything, cat or human, and how the entire bottom third of our tree was trimmed with unbreakables.
