(6,208 posts)11. This little gem reminded me of my attempt to escape childhood tyranny. Thwarted by a 1950's MOM.
So I must have been 7 or 8 at the time. I do not remember what it was that put me over the edge, but I WAS LEAVING.
So I packed a Tom Sawyer handkerchief full of "necessities " for an 8-year-old. I tied the escape kit to a stick from the yard and had it slung over my shoulder, standing in the middle of the kitchen floor waiting to let Mom know precisely why I was leaving.
She listened and said she understood my complaint, but I still wouldn't get it my way. So she very calmly said I'm sorry you feel that way, but if you intend to leave, that is your decision. All right! I'm going and starting to the backdoor as my hand grabs the knob.
She again, in a very calm voice, said one more thing if you are going to leave home, you can only go as you arrive.... ok as the door started to swing open, she said, "take off your clothes and leave them here you arrive naked you'll have to leave the same way."
WELL, that was a fine, how do you do !! I eventually won the dispute, sort of; I left ten years later with all my clothes for military boot camp.

(6,208 posts)14. And this one also reminded me of something I have always believed.
I think all of us kids that played in the dirt and mud end up living healthy lives than today's kids, who are in many cases kept in nearly germ-free environments.
So the moment a strange biological agent enters their world, the coughing, sneezing, running noses put them down for the count.
Let the kids get out and play and build any immunity to the typical bugs in the world.
Covid IS NOT a typical bug, and all of the mud, dirt, grass, and childhood yuck! It wouldn't have made Covid any less contagious.
Get vaccinated save yourself and others from this deadly virus.

I remember having to take medicine for it .not fun.

(206,016 posts)16. There's a name for a condition that causes kids to like to eat dirt
When I was really little, I had a sandbox, filled with nice clean sand that I assume my Dad bought. And I had a little neighbor friend my age who used to come over to play, but I was not a fan of her little brother since he would eat the sand in my sandbox!
