1. I get that look from the blue jays when there are no more peanuts on the porch rail.

I, too, use my porch railing as a little buffet. Darn jays try to hoover up every bit before they leave. If I see them, I'll tap on the window to scare them off, if I think they're taking too much. It works for 30 seconds or so.

3. I've noticed that they are able to carry off two peanuts at a time -

they stuff one down their throat and then pick up another and fly off.
