Bar none there was NO BETTER TIME to be a teenager than in the suburbs of a big city in the 70's!

(254,970 posts)I've probably seen The Beach Boys in concert more than I've seen anyone else since my brother was a big fan so I used to go with him. We both had our favorites, his was Carl and mine was Dennis. *sigh* I don't think Brian was playing with them back then and now he's on his own.
And I also saw Sha Na Na live in concert. I went with an older friend of mine who insisted that we all had to dress up like it was the '50s - and we were the only ones there who did...

(14,814 posts)With Richie Havens the winter after Woodstock. Not long after I saw The Allman Brothers open a show for Elton John in Denver. So many great different styles of music back then.

(254,970 posts)And he picked somebody else. I missed my chance!
But speaking of gyms - I actually saw Bruce Springsteen in the gym at The University of Vermont! My brother was a student there at the time and he invited me. And he sure put on a show! He did numerous encores - and because it wasn't a big venue, I was hard of hearing for the nest couple of days!

(25,045 posts)This is where the Woodstock Festival actually took place because the town of Woodstock withdrew the permits to keep the hippies away. Theres a wonderful museum and concert venue in Bethel now and they have Sha Na Nas Wurlitzer electric piano on display. Lots of other cool memorabilia and history, too.
Merry Christmas!

(16,984 posts)Oct 31/Nov 1 1969. Tickets were $7.00 and I lost my ticket for the second day. I told someone with the venue about it, he handed me a pile of programs, said, "Hand these out and then pick a seat".
I ended up in a balcony box above the stage on the left side facing the stage and had Janis Joplin sing "Ball & Chain" to me (or at least it felt that way ).
Google the concert, the groups were absolutely fantastic.

(24,906 posts)I went there dozens of times in the 70s. Bill Graham was an excellent promoter. His shows started on time, and were well run. He also like to expose people to different kinds of music by pairing acts you wouldn't normally see together. It's amazing how much fun we had without alcohol. Except maybe a bottle of cheap wine while waiting in line. I was there the night when some of Frampton's live album was recorded. I saw ZZTop there before they grew their beards long.
A good movie of the goings on at that venue is The Last Waltz with the Band and many other artists.
