Thought I'd share my latest video showcasing my Lionel O-gauge model railroad "empire" and my O-gauge model train collection. Over 150 pieces of rolling stock in 10 minutes!
Hope you enjoy! For more pics of my collection see my website at https://northamericabyrail.info/model-railroading/

(24,300 posts)such a relatively small space. Not easy to do with O gauge. My family has some Lionel O gauge stuff from the 40s. My older brother currently has it. There's a black locomotive and about six Pullman cars that light up. Still has the original transformer and controls. The track got replaced in the 70s, the old stuff rusted in storage.
Thanks for posting this.

(1,798 posts)For me the challenge was to pack a fair amount of operating action on an 8 x 9 foot table in O gauge - without it looking too overcrowded. To that end I tried to chose structures and accessories that I thought would best fit & flow with the available space. It also helps to use a CAD program for model railroads like RLW or SCARM where you can create, adjust and modify the track plan as many times as you like before starting construction. My layout has sidings to hold up to 7 trains - of which up to two can run at any one time on the double track mainline.
BTW - That's great that your brother still has that old passenger set - those old Lionel steamers sure are neat!

(1,798 posts)Cool! - In the past I experimented with different scales myself. Ended up going back to my first love - O gauge. But that's just my personal preference, all model railroading is interesting - no matter what scale.

(38,428 posts)...Let's see
....1. wires underneath the table.
....2 getting the houses in place and lining them up
....3 sometimes you have to build the houses, past them with glue..and then decide where they go
....4 getting the right size motor cars for the layout..(autos that go on the roads)
....5 putting in roads for the cars, stop signs, & traffic lights for the cars..
....6 building the mountains and getting it correct for the layout
....7 building the stations & other buildings.....For example in the layout that hasn't been put up in 25 years, I had
a model McDonalds that I built from a kit.. Yes, model McDonalds for the two streets that were on the board..
....8 Also I had a school and a series of homes in one area. (that I built from kits)
....9 The station that I had was built from a kit.
...10 The wires underneath the table had to be coordinated in order to get the stuff working
...11 Track switches need to be regulated and controlled so they need wires and set ups too
...12 The wooden board needs to be a correct size to fit the track..(mine was 5 feet by 10 feet)
...13 Setting up the layout took lots and lots of TIME...(so you need a lot of time to do it all)...It was my hobby and I
started by buying an HO Gage engine, and went from there. HO gage cars, buildings, people walking, stores, stations, etc.
...14 You need to buy transformers, or power packs to run the show..More stuff, more power is needed
...15 You need to buy the engines and the cars for a layout...Train engines, fright cars, passenger cars, cabooses, etc
....By the Way........TRAIN ENGINES AND CARS ARE...NOT CHEAP
....16 iF you have a family, the family needs to be positive or at least neutral about the hobby...Why?...Much time is
used on the .....HOBBY...that is not given to the ...FAMILY..
....17...TIME.....YOU NEED LOTS OF TIME TO GIVE THIS HOBBY...wHY? ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY...
.....18 ...MORE WORK ON HOBBY, more fun results
.....19 ..You need to learn to work on a minature scale...HO Guage...Lionel Guage..N.Guage..etc.
.....20..Track that the Trains Run on, needs to be bought and tacked down on the board..That is not easy,,,(try it
if you think that tacking down Lionel track is Easy Breezy.....
......................Well that is enough for today..got other work to do...like set up the HO Guage Train
