(102,283 posts)2. I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I know they always have friends/fellow performers
perform the music of those known for their singing/composition, but it did sort of underscore how unique was Joanie Mitchell's voice and singing style that those paying tribute couldn't quite emulate. But, it was nice. I enjoyed the Berry Gordy tribute a great deal. The only thing missing from Bette Midler's tribute was the missing Barry Manilow (I understand he had been long booked for performances in Las Vegas and couldn't make it work). He, Bette, and Melissa Manchester really were a team of three early on.
Having the show end with Stevie Wonder performing thrilled me no end. He's incomparable.
A nice night overall.
