Lovely tradition! I'm ready. Check out this website, featuring lots about this celebration, including the 2021 Jolabokaflod Booklist:

Our books, however, are in English.

The chocolate, which we still do more or less as well, is international.

Seven were hard backed books. This would land most husbands in the dog house, but my wife was close to tears.
Nothing she loves better than a hard backed book.

Included were Anderson Cooper’s book on the Vanderbilt dynasty, Katie Couric’s autobiography, and Grisham’s latest.

The first European literature comes from Iceland (the Sagas.) It's possible that they needed something to do in winter.

Reykjavik had 6:49 of daylight, by comparison Anchorage had 7:34. That roughly 49 minutes may not seem like much, but you would be shocked.
