Got to see a baby calf born on Christmas day.

We are in the hill country until after the new year.

One of my neighbors came over with a extra horse and said let's go looking for this cow I am missing.

So we had a nice horseback ride and did find the missing cow.

There she was giving birth.

A little heifer.

Mother and daughter is doing well.

Moved them back to barn area.

It was a nice morning.

Sorry.

The phone was in the house and I didn't go get it.

Wished I had.

The calf is Hereford.

Red and white.

This cow always takes off and hides.

Instinct, stems from getting the little one away from predators stalking the herd.

More then one calf has been killed by the feral hogs.

The cow tries to protect the calf but they do not stand a chance with the feral pigs.

We had to find this cow.

Neighbors help neighbors.

It's pretty messy.

You haven't lived until you've been there with a calf that was coming out backward (in January, temps in single digits.) You have to reach up inside the cow, and turn the calf around with your hands. (You can't do it with a coat on.) That's just miserable.

This cow didn't know what day it was.

This cow is character.

An escape artist.

I had great day.

Glad I could help.

Every calf counts.
