(4,123 posts)ice skates and have a blast. First painting I've ever seen of ice fishing. Love the sky and the grasses in the foreground. It looks cold, but inviting at the same time.

I worked from a photograph I took myself, and yes it was very cold that day!

(26,856 posts)really, in a long time. Hopefully in '22!
I have drawn from life, and my imagination a lot of clouds- pen, colored pencils
Diamond_Dog
(40,577 posts)Puffy white clouds are a bit more difficult, at least for me. I have another seed of an idea to try next with clouds. I am first and foremost a pencil sketcher like you.

(26,856 posts)You might be skeptical...
But a plain ole Bic Biro Crystal black pen can be wonderful!
I discovered that in the ?'00s.
Extremely fine (as in very small stroke lines) work with these pens is what first was called Biro Art.

(40,577 posts)Some of those shacks are pretty comfortable - heater, TV, etc. it seems to be a pretty popular winter activity around here.

(4,094 posts)I love the sky, is very interesting, sort of impressionist with good quality that gives great depth to the rest of the painting.
Very well done.

(40,577 posts)I have done oils before. It was a long time ago. I should give them another shot, though. I do like the colors better.

You have considerable talent! It's great that you're developing it. You can only get better!

(42,862 posts)Do you sketch it out first and then following your original sketchlines? Is this from a photo? Is it your memory of a real place, or just some peaceful and tranquil place created entirely from your imagination?
Diamond_Dog
(40,577 posts)I sketched out the proportions, but mostly its just free-hand,since there isnt a lot of content to render. Took me probably 3 or 4 Sunday mornings to finish.

That is just beautiful. It really takes me there and those clouds are NE Ohio all the way.

(40,577 posts)That IS Mosquito Lake; photo taken last February. You have a good memory. Here in NE Ohio we sure do know clouds, dont we?

My 16 year old son spends his winters ice fishing. Your painting spoke to me immediately because of that. It captures the season perfectly.

(40,577 posts)I wish your son much success! He must not mind the cold!
