(15,359 posts)onto a new green that was almost like moguls, with a huge break and run about another 50 feet. I played it about right, but it took the ball squiggling though the bumps and divots all the way, then almost rimming out before draining. Right by the clubhouse too, so I got a round of applause and laughs from everyone out there watching. LOL

(16,969 posts)realized there is a complete other world language that surrounds hitting a little ball into a small cup at a distance with a club.
It sounded like:

(Pssst, just yankin your chain, I fish it's alot cheaper) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

(4,047 posts)These players can definitely hit the shots, but it is almost impossible to hit the a shot like that one twice, no matter how good you are.

(912 posts)Believe me when I say there was absolutely no real skill involved other than to whack the heck out the ball in the general direction of the hole which was a good 150 or more yards away. (The hole itself was a long 400-450 yards long, and I pretty much sucked at golf, particularly when it came to any sort of consistency.)
As for this guy, skipping the ball over the water obstruction to just get onto the green was likely the plan, but having it then make the circuitous roll into the hole? Just wow.

(14,680 posts)It's a hole on the Par 3 course that is played on Wednesday before the Masters.
Since the round is just for fun, it is a tradition for the players to bounce the ball across the water on that one Par 3. Some balls don't make it over but most do. Very similar to bouncing a flat stone across a pond.
There have been several holes-in-one. Jack Nichlaus's grandson, playing with his granddad, aced it a couple of years ago.

(12,182 posts)and quite good, golfer. He had one arm in a cast, but had the jones, so he went with 3 other friends. Played using only one arm and still broke 100. So....some pretty good skills.
I shot a round with him many, many years ago and he hit two shots that should have been recorded for posterity. Both times, he was either short or long of where he was aiming, and the ball was arcing right into a huge ditch.
First time, it hit the cart bridge that crossed the hazard and landed in a place anyone would be happy with. Any golfer, anyway.
Second time, it clearly missed the bridge by quite a margin, and was heading for the far, steep bank, and was surely going to bounce back into the water. Nope. Hit the only patch of mud - it was smaller than a dinner plate - and stuck. A sidehill wasn't about to slow him down, so he used a short iron to get to the green.

Interesting fact is the curse. No one who has ever won the Par 3 tournament (which is just for fun for players and spectators) has gone on to win the actual tournament.
I grew up in SC across the Savannah River from Augusta, and was lucky to have a friend with tickets and went to one day each year for about 25 years. When his Mom died, no more tickets. They can pass between spouses but not any further.
