(72,790 posts)reminds me so much of my family.
My parents are so Frank and Marie (but in a good way!)

(6,581 posts)I could/can barely tolerate it. Mostly a lot of screaming and yelling between family members. In real life, the wife would have walked out and divorced him years ago because of the mother in law's constant insults and meddling. Or she would have made him take a job in a city far, far, far away from the in-laws.

(12,723 posts)Particularly the time we saw Georgia Engel smoking. I am not sure I have ever seen anything funnier than her with a cigarette hanging from her mouth.
Watch and see

(12,132 posts)But my favorite episodes where when Fred Willard and Georgia Engel and Chris Elliot showed up.
I also never watched during it's initial run but have seen a ton of reruns.

(5,359 posts)plus Brad Garrett. They're funny, but Raymond himself isn't.

(10,000 posts)Generally, I found the show funny.
I separate Patricia Heaton's acting from her politics.

(70,783 posts)The whole cast was interviewed together, the lead actors in the first row, the supporting actors behind them. Since the show is technically ROMANO's, while being ensemble, LIPTON had to shift back and forth between highlighting the star and the rest of the cast. ROMANO was not a hog, is low wattage, lets the others take the attention.
So late in the interview, LIPTON needed to shift back to ROMANO for a plug for his latest project, asking him to do a recitation as the new character.
BOYLE was in the second row behind ROMANO. He was looking down, polishing the lenses of his glasses, when ROMANO stood up to do his thing.
And BOYLE said quietly, without ever looking up, "Wait till you see THIS transformation."
ROMANO and everybody cracked up. Sure enough, his new character was indistinguishable from his real self or the "Raymond" character.

(35,345 posts)the character is different
too bad it only made it through 2 seasons - it was a great show

(78,249 posts)King of Queens. Yes, Dear. Still Standing. Let's put a middle-class white ethnic family in front of the camera and let the yuks begin! Never mind the dark, almost macabre edge that Doris Roberts in particular brought to Raymond. Who needs it?

(30,885 posts)Many episodes were hilarious, a few were stupid and ill-conceived. A better hit-or-miss ration than most shows.

(4,019 posts)Two episodes stand out in my mind:
The one when Frank passed out condoms on Halloween, believing they were wrapped chocolates. The writers doubled-down on this episode by having Boyle in costume as Frankenstein's monster.
Second, the episode called The Angry Family, where one of their boys had written a story and the teacher and family assumed it was about the Barone's.

(15,950 posts)They just had the episode where the big brother's new girl kills a fly and eats it and Raymond just stands there in shock for 5 minutes.
