I get so tense watching the figure skating that you'd think...
…it was one of my own kids out there. 
Our sons were reasonably accomplished travel, high school, and college soccer players, and we loved watching them on the field.
I was always glad they weren’t gymnasts or skaters, or good enough at anything to be competing at a national or international level. So much/too much pressure. It was tough enough watching shootouts.

As someone who knows very little about the nuances of the sport, and has no desire to remedy that particular blind spot, the scoring is rather opaque except when they fall on their ass -- and since they can do that and yet still win, the whole thing seems pointless from a entertainment-for-the-masses standpoint.
I might as well be watching a lottery or a bingo tournament. People skate. They jump, they spin, they may or may not fall, they get a number. Where does the number come from? Fuck you, you ignoramus, that's where. Okay. Whatever. I care a lot.
