I ordered something on-line from Walmart. A couple of weeks ago, and about a week later then the original promised date, they sent me an email saying it was delivered.
So I keep an eye out, outside my door. Nothing. I waited almost a full week, still nothing. I go on their website and get into it with a text bot that I never received my package. After a surprisingly easy 'discussion' with said bot, I was told that the credit account I charged the item to would be refunded. A few days later, I check the account and voila, it was charged back and my balance corrected. No sweat, right?
Now, the dilemma. Here I am a couple of days after they repaid me and the package shows up. Apparently, they 'last miled' it through USPS, which took several days to get there.
So, now what do I do? Please keep in mind that I am basically ethically challenged to begin with.

(6,797 posts)After getting them they didn't fit. I called Wal-Mart to ask how to send them back and get a larger size. They told me to keep them and they would send me the larger size. I asked what am I going to do with the if they won't fit. They said find someone to give them to. Worked for me!

(4,919 posts)... Got a couple of Amazon packages delivered to me that were meant for someone in a nearby town... I called Amazon to arrange to have them picked up. But, they asked me for the tracking number and said for me to keep the items as a "gesture of good will"... They said it's easier for them to reship it immediately to the customer than to arrange to have them picked up.
So, I got three pairs of house slippers (which I will never use), an electronic Pokémon toy, and a 1TB external SSD drive (which I will definitely use guilt free).

(7,447 posts)just slowly, so the moral answer is pretty clear, but obviously there's degrees of morality, but still...as someone else said, if you contact them and tell them odds are they aren't going to make you pay anyways.

(8,329 posts)I ordered 8 patio cushions from Walmart. A week later a big box shows up with 4 cushions. I think the other must be shipping from another store so I wait, the next day I get the email that my order has been delivered so I called Walmart, gave the order number told them what happened and that I only got half the order. A week later, I got 8 cushions, I again called Walmart and told them that they sent me 4 extras and that I now had 12. They told me not to bother trying to return the 4 extras. They were about 40 dollars each, so under the deck they went as they were for patio furniture and the dogs sit on them all the time.
A month after the second order arrived, so about 7 weeks after I placed the order, another box showed up with 4 additional cushions show up. I called Walmart, told them what happened, told them they were still in the box and they could pick them right back up, all I needed to do was add some tape. Again, they said keep them. I dont understand the business model that lets this happen, but it does.

(23,666 posts)With returns. As a result of the mail order society we now live in, major stores are incurring huge expenses managing the incredible growth in returns. They are filing up warehouses and the stores have to hire additional staff to manage the merch; log it in, complete necessary transaction work, repackage if possible, just a ton of work, extra staff and storage space. Ton of other issues too. Its just not at all profitable to get the merchandise back. So in many cases telling the customer to keep the merchandise, its less expensive for them.

(10,885 posts)whether or not they decide to re-charge you. They may well just gift it to you. In any event, you'll be able to use your item with a clear conscience and no guilt.

She took it back, assuming that some employee was going to catch hell for the duplication, maybe lose his or her job.
They were surprised by her honesty, which when you think about it, is a little sad.
