When my grandmother, who had been with Alzheimer's in a nursing home for years, was in her last hours and comatose but still barely hanging on... I'm physically disabled and even when she couldn't remember her own kids, she remembered I was sick and was worried for how I was. So, I whispered into her ear before I left that if she was hanging on because of me, I'd be okay and that it was alright for her to go. It was something which had stuck with me from this. She passed shortly thereafter, peacefully.
