(29,522 posts)I am dubious about corn being the favorite topping on PA and WV pizzas.

And carrots on pizza? What the hell is the matter with these people?

(19,102 posts)I have never even seen carrots on the menu - has to be a joke.

Pickles and sauerkraut, definitely!

(22,362 posts)I guess it would be an improvement if you didn't want your cat to steal your pizza.

(25,392 posts)Have you not had a bacon cheeseburger pizza with pickles or a bratwurst and sauerkraut pizza?

(50,994 posts)I'm doubtful about corn, avocado, tuna, and carrots being the favorite topping in any US state. I have seen fish be popular overseas though.

(930 posts)I'm in Minnesota and I've never, ever seen tuna as an option for a pizza topping. Granted, I've not been to every pizza joint in the state, but I find it hard to believe. Now, if "walleye" was an option I'd believe it.

(8,075 posts)One of the best pizzas I've had in Italy had smoked salmon & burrata (a soft cheese) on it. Delicious!
Then there's the Italian frutti di mare (fruit of the sea) pizza with assorted seafood. Again, delicious & another reason why I look forward to going back every year & eating pizza every day. "Pizza" loses a lot in translation when it crosses the Atlantic.

(28,485 posts)toppings. Trust me, I live in New Mexico and carrots are not offered as a topping, let alone rise to being the favorite. Same with corn or avocado. Or tuna.
I actually doubt that black olives are really a first choice anywhere.
Pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. Other toppings yeah, but they're a much smaller selection.
Beacool
(30,506 posts)They're good, but pepperoni and sausage are more popular.

(40,703 posts)Just by my own experience: I live in Pennsylvania where pepperoni or sausage are the favorite toppings. Packman says we prefer "corn" topping and I don't even know what that is. I've never seen corn on a pizza.

CaptainTruth
(8,075 posts)And with the exception of a couple items like tuna & black olives you won't find any of those toppings on a real Italian pizza.
Sure there are mushrooms, but they're porcini (boletes), far more delicious than what you get in the US. There's sausage, but it's salsiccia, not like US sausage at all. There's salame piccante (a spicy salame) but it puts pepperoni to shame.
Off the top of my head I'd say my favorite real Italian pizza toppings are salame piccante, smoked salmon, burrata (a soft white cheese), gorgonzola, & melanzane (eggplant).
Here's a menu from one of my favorite places, La Dispensa, in Albiate (greater Milan area). They have a thin crust farina integrale (whole flour) that's awesome.
Here's their menu:

(13,957 posts)The most popular topping in Siracusa was dried ricotta (I don't recall if it had a special name) which was very savory and salty but not as strong a flavor as Parmesan. I recognize the "Tedesca" as there were blond/blue-eyed people in the little town I was visiting and the locals referred to them as "Tedesco", or "Germans", because many were the descendants of German troops stationed in Sicily during the war. My favorite topping is eggplant, BTW.

End of discussion.

(4,301 posts)There's painful levels of foolishness throughout, but one thing caught me:
It's optional for their *staff* to not wash their hands after using the restroom, if they prefer not to? If they don't do that, they'd best not be handling food from freezer to table or they're primed for lawsuits.
