Eminem - Lose Yourself

I've never been much of a rap or hip-hop fan, but I loved this song as soon as I heard it twenty years ago (8 Mile was a great film, too).

So for me, hearing this song at halftime during the Super Bowl made the entire show better. I'd've thought it was fine anyway, but this was what I was waiting for.

lyrics. (Well, lifted it after a friend brought it up.) Perfect title for a book that goes from following mid-1970s tours by the Stones and Led Zeppelin to the early 2010s, with a lot on Eminem.

From page 269:

In 2004, Dre told me, "When Jimmy [Iovine] first played me Eminem's tape, I didn't think he was a white cat. It never crossed my mind. I guess at that time I must have thought he was a black guy, because I wasn't thinking that a white guy could rap that well. And I still haven't heard anyone come close."

Eminem, a.k.a. Marshall Mather, has the timing and rhythm required to rap well.

Eminem Is The Greatest Of All Time" - that I nearly posted here, but didn't in case some of the language used might get me alerted on. But you can find it easily enough searching YouTube. It was posted on the Eminem Central Music channel there. And it's had over 7 million views on YouTube.

Eric B. and Rakim with Jody Watley - "Friends" is another favorite piece.

O.P.P.
