What music would it surprise your friends to know that you like?

Songs or artists

For me, it would probably be

Billie Holiday: there's something about her, probably the sad emotions in her singing

Thunderstruck: AC/DC's song that just makes me smile

Willie Nelson: It would surprise my friends that any country artist would be on a list of music that I like, but Willie Nelson is seriously one of the best song writers ever. Sometimes his lyrics can make you cry and smile at the same time.

I can listen to her sing for hours in French and not understand a word. Says a lot for the music, too.

Great question. Having said that, my taste is so eclectic that my friends know I like basically all kinds of music except Opera....

BTW, I love Billie Holiday and Willie Nelson too!

I listen to all kinds of music, partly because I love it and partly because it’s my career..

I’m not a fan of opera so I guess if I started listening to Verdi and Puccini, my wife would notice. I’d prefer Gregorian chants or Irish folk music to opera!

on the artist. A fellow DUer posted a video of one Stephen Barry performing/busking in Covent Garden, London. He sang All I Ask of You in a spontaneous duet with Celinde Schoenmaker. IMHO, his voice is magnificent.

As a young child in 1956 Morocco, where my dad was stationed, there were no records available
of rock and roll or anything that would have been on the radio in the states. So if I had a good
report card, my mom let me have a classical record.

but maybe the narrowest category about which I'm ardent is Japanese film score music.

I love quite a bit of opera.

I surprised a friend with the same musical interests as mine by singing along with Dolly Parton's "Jolene," to which, inexplicably, I know all the words. My friend was gobsmacked.

Grew up on a farm hating country music and listening to rock n roll... Billy isn't really country but some folks take bluegrass that way.

Maybe not my FRIENDS friends, but more casual friends might be surprised.

Hard not to mix up Kanye's talent with his wildly unstable personality but he is in fact innovative, intelligent and brave in his work.

I'm also an Eminem fan.
