(14,118 posts)box of groceries reminds me of my younger days when I'd go shopping on my little
50cc Suzuki and manage to take home two big bags of groceries.

We have one of the best open air markets in this part of Provence.

(17,339 posts)He loved Provence. And managed to get a lot of it right.
His non-fiction was great. The novels? Not so much, though Ridley Scott (who has a house just 40 minutes from Aix) liked one of his books enough to adapt it into A Good Year. Russel Crowe, Marion Cotilliard, and the wonderful Albert Finney were excellent. The real star of the film was Provence.

(14,888 posts)and one of her grandkids to Paris by train!
This was bc I'd expressed a desire to visit Paris for a day since I was so relatively close (vs NYC! 😄 ). She thought it wouldn't be enough time. So we stayed 4 days, 3 nights!
I loved seeing the French 💖 countryside coming, and going.
My relatives lived in a little, and pretty village. In one direction they were about a mile from the Eastern French border. When my uncle would bring local, and nearby cheeses home, I think we had one from a French village from over the nearby border.
I loved 💖 Paris. It was a city I wanted to visit. (Since things took a challenging turn in my life I didn't think I'd be able to go. But my aunt treated me to visit and make art 💖 with her.) The architecture, the gardens, the Art Museums, the Ponte de Alexandria, the Eiffel Tower, the book sellers along the Seine, the fountains, etc!
I found the French friendly, despite what some people say. I had a glorious time!
You kicked up fabulous memories!
Oh, and of course I took photos! 🥰 👍
And, ha, as I'm posting this the U2 Live radio station is playing a concert snippet from France bc he was chanting "Egalité, Fraternité.... 😄🥰

(17,339 posts)We started visiting France in the 1980's and thought at the time that we would be able to live here.
2016 happened, and while on three month visit from Dec 2016 to March 2017 bought a flat. Due to a happy confluence of circumstances, we were able to move here permanently in September 2018.
For more photos of France, be sure and 'watch this space', because I'll be posting a lot of them.
In fact, here's one of our favourite bakery in Aix - Pave du Roy.
Breakfast today is a pistachio 'escargot' or pain aux raisins from there.

(14,888 posts)Oui, some of my most treasured memories! 💖
think my aunt & uncle moved there to Switzerland in the '80s. Their youngest child grew up speaking French first.
It was interesting to hear my Uncle speaking French as we drove around to get more groceries several times in the big town about ?2 miles away.
That youngest child lives now lives with her family in that town. We got to meet up and spend the day there. I met one her other sisters in Geneva with part of her family who drove me up to their parents' house. And one of their brothers visited twice. All such fun!
Continue to enjoy your lives there. 👍
One other funny story one of the last times they visited NYC we ate at a French leaning restaurant. I had a
Monte Christo.
When my aunt, my cousin and I arrived in one of Paris's train stations we had lunch in there.
I had...
a Monte Christo. 🙂
