The coral reef is a microcosm of a macrocosm, says paper artist Rogan Brown. What is happening to the reefs today will ultimately happen to the planet tomorrow unless action is taken. Through new paper sculptures comprised of delicately fringed sea creatures, Brown (previously) creates a striking visual display of the disastrous impacts of the climate crisis on marine life, showing how issues like coral bleaching can radiate outward into the wider world.Ghost Coral

(16,190 posts)5. I just looked up this artist
Never heard of him or his art and hes quite interesting. His sculptures are fantastic. Who would have ever thought paper could be turned into such beauty.
You could be forgiven for thinking that Artist Rogan Brown's intricate paper art is 3D-printed, but believe it or not, it's all cut entirely by hand. Brown's work is an exploration of the boundaries between observational studies and artistic interpretations, and revolves mainly around microorganisms and plant life. He cuts and stacks layer after layer to achieve a desired look, and one piece can take him up to five painstaking months to complete. "I want to communicate my fascination with the immense complexity and intricacy of natural forms and this is why the process behind my work is so important," the artist says. "I have chosen paper as a medium because it captures perfectly that mixture of delicacy and durability that for me characterises the natural world."
