We could have had "Ernest Goes To Washington" and that's going to haunt me.

On April Fools Day, 1986, the White House reporters gathered for what they were told was a briefing on "economic monetary policy and so forth."
Instead they were introduced to Jim Varney as Ernest P. Worrell who entertained them for 15 minutes.

When I was an undergrad, I worked at the local Sears auto center on weekends. I sold Jim Varney a battery for his car one Sunday afternoon. Seemed a decent guy. That was in "Ernest's" commercial days, before the movies or that press corp appearance.
