(53,776 posts)It is mentioned that she is always portrayed as having white skin color but is that true? This statement points towards her mother belonging to an African family and probably being a black-colored woman.
The article was based on the remains of a woman found by archaeologists in 2009. The remains belonged to one of Cleopatras sisters, pointing towards the fact that their mother was an African.
However, there is another side to the story. It states that the remains were not found in 2009 but were discovered first in 1926. But, it was discovered to be Princess Arsinoes remain only in 1985 by Austrian Scholar Hilke Thur
But it cannot be taken as 100 percent accurate as no name or any other evidence was proving the remains of Arsinoe.

(1,969 posts)Plus, we know what she looks like. She is a fairly modern figure with plenty of contemporaneous reports. This isn't King Tut. Cleopatra is closer to our time than she was to the old kingdom Pharaohs.
I will never understand the bizarre fixation on trying to prove a person who was in a very incestuous Greek family to be secretly sub sub-saharan African.

(1,969 posts)There is a difference between North Africans and Sub-Saharan Africans in general appearance, per the strange standards we have here in the United States.
And once again we do know what she looked like because she was a fairly famous person who lived during a time we still have plentiful historical records, pictures, statues ect.

(53,776 posts)The research I reference suggests her mother may have been African, which includes Egyptians. Are we clear?
And she's described as having "frizzy hair." Since when is "frizzy hair" characteristic of white people? It sure seems to indicated mixed.

I am no fan of Henry VIII, a misogynist and tyrant. But why the shaved head?
Washington and Franklin updates look pretty conservative for a couple of rebels.
