I watched "Summer of Soul" last night! That was fabulous...

I'm old enough to remember it but I didn't know much about the music or the musicians.

I am verklimpt. The sheer joy, the extraordinary power of the voices, the talent and the courage left me limp...the same year as Woodstock, right?

1. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I remember all those groups and songs

I went to the Atlantic City Pop festival that summer. Lots of good bands, Janice Joplin was next to last and the show closed with a Little Richard. Always been a fan but that really did it. I also went to Woodstock that year. That was more of an event than a concert

4. It opened with Herbie Mann playing "Chain of Fools" and I thought it was only Aretha who sang that.

But no...

5. Now I'm really looking forward to it I had a Herbie Mann album in college

6. It's almost like another song because Mann was just so very talented, but Aretha soaked through my

skin on that song.

8. Had a live Otis Redding album about that time

He performed “Respect” and before singing it he introduced the song by saying “there was a girl who took this song from me, she just took it”

7. I got weepy when Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples

sang together. Great movie! One of the best this year.

It was amazing! Loved loved it so much I am going to watch it again today (we saved it on dvr). If you have not seen it you MUST see it! Quest Love did a great job with this!
