I got to thinking about a place where I used to live and wondered if it was still the same...

Back in the mid 80’s I moved up to Ward, CO. I was told not to talk about anything “important” on the phone ‘cause they were tapped by the FBI. The locals kept junk vehicles lining the streets to scare respectable folks from moving up there and ruining the place. And yeah, there were rumors about Patty Hearst living in a lesbian commune nearby.

I did a google search and found this clip. Yup, It’s still the same.

Ward looks like a cool place to live. Maybe a potential asshole free zone. I'm a freak it would be great to live among other freaks.

But reality might be different..I dunno

I never really became part of the community. I did meet a few people and they were pretty cool. My housemates and I threw a couple parties and the “mayor” showed up for one. He played upright bass. The previous mayor, I was told, had been dead through his entire term. The lady who lived in the house by the “ congested arena” sign held an annual party on the “birthday” of her antique cook stove. She wore a top hat and cooked pancakes all day long for anyone who stopped by. I’m sure it’s still a great place to live but I’ll bet it’s pretty hard to break in to the community.

I'm surprised the video didn't mention the Millsite Inn. Best pizza at 9254'

Used to go there weekly for beer & pizza. Once Covid is but a memory it'll
be time to revisit!

It was closed for a few years, but reopened last fall. The new owners are
still working on getting their liquor license and they have limited hours still.

Affectionally, "Land of the Barking Dog and Broken Car." I once worked at a hospital in Boulder and knew several coworkers who lived in Ward and commuted down to Boulder to work. Great people, laid back.
